“Yes, It’s witty to do it this way.” “Yes, It should be Ammu”. I overheard mom and dad whispering to each other, the other night. I had already prophesied that something’s gonna hit me in the morning. Next day I woke up to my mom and dad seated beside me saying” Kunju will have her interview in no time. It’s prudent if she goes ASAP so her quarantine gets over before the interview starts.” “Yes mom. It’s a wise one. I totally agree to it.” I replied to mom. “ Well, then we want you to accompany her.” bombed dad on me. “ What?! Why me though? Especially when COVID is at it's pinnacle. I dont wanna jeopardize my precious life for some loon like her!”. The next thing I remember doing is fillng up zillions of forms declaring that we are corona free.
Just a flight, how mundane could it be, despite the fact that my fellow traveller had already buckled herself up with two novels for the venture with hundreds of people from all around the country. And who knows were the carriers of corona.
On seeing everybody at the airport I almost forgot my actual purpose. It felt like we were all surgeons and were inside a big OT ready to perform a surgery any time now. People were covered in PPT from tip to toe. So were we. I was pretty sure I’d die of suffocation if not COVID. But somehow we managed to reach our destination, Cochin airport, safe and sound. We had to go through some screening tests. We hailed a cab. I was a bit reluctent to ride on it in this corona season but damn I was galvanized to appreciate them for the set up. The passenger compartment of the vehicle was sealed with a platic cover converting it into this mini cabin.
We soon reached to the ‘Anganvadi’ where we had to stay for the next 14 days straight. It was all fun and game till then. But 14 days? I kid you not, I had been thinking several times that I must run away. But Kunju’s overzealousness for quarantine got the upper hand over my lousy attitude towards it. Okay!Let’s do it, I said.
We watched movies, series together, danced, sang songs and even composed a song,in a nutshell, we did everything to beguile the time. But it was still day 1.
By day 2 we had already become pretty famous there as all the neighbours would flock around to see the two Bengalis in quarantine. On day 3, we resolved to go famous on youtube. We made several fruitless attempts to make some duet videos but soon ditched it and moved on to becoming poets.
Our lovely uncle and aunty(much more to be appreciated) just made our stay much more easier. We experienced well-nigh a 5 star hotel service. And our butter cup Paru would add a little more aroma to our day bringing us flowers from the neighbour.
Anyway we pulled it through the 14 days quarantine becoming professionals at washing dishes and laundry.
We do not really need a million reasons to be happy without a reason. You have a good company and you can still be smiling when locked up in a room for days. Unhappy are those who go searching for happiness in things when the real happiness must be lying beside you prolly giving you a sucker punch.
No matter how hard you try, Sometimes it's better to be in silence than cry. The stormy clouds will soon pass away And you will of course find a better way. All you got to do is work hard day and night One day you will be proud to see yourself at greater height. The wind of success is so sweet That the ones who ignored will now greet Life is something which everyone can't understand. But the ones who do are the ones who outstand .
